The first day plus a few hours

ASU is an odd joint, at least my French professor is. She’s like a crazy cat lady, nice as grandma, and as eccentric as Hunter S. Thompson. The only downside to the class is that I’m stuck with a bunch of kids right out of high school, and that puts me about 10 years older than everyone in the class.

Right, that lsat paragraph was not comic book related. But it does have an impact on the book: I will be back in the grind by the end of the week, but I’ll be back on track to finishing up the script.

Tyler’s in Arizona

Nessa and I made it in one piece to AZ.

School starts on the 24th and the last issue of the script will be finished right around then. Going to be getting back to work next week once everything around the joint has settled down a bit.

Nessa will also post up issue #0 again next week, so spread the word and have as many people possible check it out.

Issue Zero… full view! (prologue)

Hey there everyone! We thought it might be a good idea to put Issue 0 up on the blog. We couldn’t get copies printed in time for Comic-Con, and it’s a FREE and EASY way to see how our story gets started.

Let us know what you think.

Comic-Con…

is two weeks away. The nerds of the world (myself included) will descend on the San Diego Convention Center for 4 days of nerdy nirvana.

If anyone wants to meet up before preview night (Wednesday), Nessa and I will be picking up our tickets around 3-330p the 22nd. Otherwise, hope to see some friends out there before heading off to Arizona to roast my ass off.

Monica will be coming back in a week or so, just in time for Comic-Con, and that’s all folks.

Status Update 2.3.1.0.5.12.7.89.42

So Jon’s sent out submissions to quite a few places, and we still haven’t heard back from a few. We’re stuck now playing the waiting game, which is not much different from when I was in the military: hurry up and wait.

Anyway, here’s the list of the publishers our book is on submission with:

Fantagraphics
Kitchen Sink
Picture Box
Dark Horse
Image
Dynamite Ent.
Slave Labor
NBM–Already passed because they don’t do graphic work anymore, or something to that effect.
AIT/Planet Lar
Anarctic Press
Arcana Comics
Avatar Press
TwoMorrow
Top Cow

Some of these publishers, like Fantagraphics, Dark Horse, Image, Dynamite, Avatar, and Top Cow are fairly well-known, so there is a good chance that if we get a deal, it won’t be with a publisher that only has books in the bargain area of Barnes and Noble. However, some of the smaller publishers, like Slave Labor, AIT/Planet Lar, Kitchen Sink, et al would open our work up to a new audience, which would be a great thing for all of us, not to mention the exposure.

Hopefully we’ll get something coming in the next few weeks or months– I’d like to have a deal at least on the table and in negotiations before I bounce out to Arizona on August 2nd.

Anyway, that’s the latest.

Comic-Con…

Starts in 31 days.

We’re still playing the waiting game with the publishers, but hopefully that will end and we’ll have something in negotiations soon.

I have a writer’s conference/symposium/shameless self-publicity event at the Escondido Library on July 25th, where I’ll be plugging the comic and avoiding the worst day of Comic-Con. Go me!

Oh, I also set up a personal Facebook account…yeah, just throwing that out there.

Hope to see you at Comic-Con.

Update: No One Cares About Big Foot!

OK, well, that may not mean anything, and I got it from Tourette’s Guy.

Anyway, Monica is getting ready to take off to France for a month or so and I’m still working on the eighth issue script.

Just thought I’d post an update so that you knew we weren’t dead, held hostage, or fell in the toilet last week.
